Tim Otteman has been recognized as one of America’s leading experts on sports gambling for several years. Tim’s perspectives of sports gambling are colored by his personal experiences as a participant/observer regarding sports gambling over the past 25 years. His father was a frequent sports gambler and bookmaker, his brother ran a campus bookmaking operation and he personally financed the majority of his undergraduate education by wagering on sports.

Tim published two articles regarding sports gambling in 2007 and is frequently quoted as a sports gambling expert in a wide variety of local, state, and national publications. Tim recently finished his doctoral degree in Educational Leadership at Central Michigan University. His dissertation was entitled “GAMBLING WITH THEIR LIVES: COLLEGE STUDENTS AND SPORTS GAMBLING” in which he conducted life story research with 14 undergraduate students intimately involved in sports gambling. Tim also had the rare opportunity to interview seven bookmakers who were former members of organized crime. Results of these interviews will be published in the near future.

These unique experiences have allowed him to create a series of distinctive educational and information trainings and presentations regarding sports gambling. The success and popularity of his programs is not only a testament to his knowledge and expertise, but also to the rapport he develops with his audiences.
