Tim Otteman has been recognized as one of America’s leading experts on sports gambling for several years. Tim’s perspectives of sports gambling are colored by his personal experiences as a participant/observer regarding sports gambling over the past 25 years. His father was a frequent sports gambler and bookmaker, his brother ran a campus bookmaking operation and he personally financed the majority of his undergraduate education by wagering on sports.
Tim has published five articles regarding sports gambling since 2007 and is frequently quoted as a sports gambling expert in a wide variety of local, state, and national publications. In 2008, Tim finished his doctoral degree in Educational Leadership at Central Michigan University. His dissertation was entitled “GAMBLING WITH THEIR LIVES: COLLEGE STUDENTS AND SPORTS GAMBLING” in which he conducted life story research with 14 undergraduate students intimately involved in illegal sports gambling. Due to the interesting perspectives of the college student sports bettors and the potential commercial appeal of this topic, VDM Publishing has turned this scholarly work into a popular press book.
